Our founding Directors, Darren Walker and Julian O’Rourke, are both Chartered Surveyors and Chartered Building Engineers with a combined experience of nearly 80 years’ in the application of fire safety and building legislation between them. They have each worked in both the public and private sectors, and for the last 16 years managed and developed one of the countries leading Approved Inspector and property legislation consultancy businesses, with a reputation for providing high quality, professional and client focussed services.
Their professional approach and high level of technical expertise has provided both long term and new clients with fire safety solutions that are tailored to suit their needs.
Darren Walker MRICS FCABE CBuildE MIFireE – Director.
Darren is a Chartered Surveyor, Fellow of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers and Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers with over 38 years’ experience. After 18 years working in two Local Authority Building Control Departments, he moved into the private sector and for the last 16 years, has been a successful manager of a national team of professional, motivated surveyors providing Approved Inspector, and fire and access consultancy services, whilst maintaining a hands-on role in delivery of services to clients. During his long career Darren has built a wealth of knowledge and experience in the regulatory environment for the construction and occupation of buildings, and a specialism in the requirements and application of fire safety legislation.
Darren has a strong vision of the professionalism, standards and competence that fire safety and property legislation consultants should provide to our clients and their teams and these skills have been used to manage the successful delivery of large and complex contracts to national clients and to provide them with practical and cost-effective advice.
Julian O’Rourke BSc (Hons) MRICS MCABE CBuildE – Director.
A Chartered Surveyor, with over 39 years’ experience in Building Control and Fire Safety Consultancy in both the public and private sectors, Julian has enjoyed many years of success whilst working on a wide range of construction projects with an international construction and facilities management company, promoting a culture of customer service to the highest professional standards and values.
Julian has proven expertise within the Building Control and Fire Safety environment, where he has provided high level technical guidance, solid business intelligence and the best advice to clients in both the public and private sectors, including Government Departments. He has provided a key source of technical support and knowledge on standards and procedural processes for a national network of surveyors dealing with projects under the Building Regulations and associated legislation.
Previous roles have also included being the Deputy Chair of the Safety Team at an international sporting venue for several years, where he performed duties under The Safety at Sports Ground Act as well as working as a part time lecturer at Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan University) on their Building Control degree.
